God has so much that He intended we receive from our mother. It’s the most complex of all family dynamics with the potential for abundant life, growth, and freedom. God thought mothers were a good idea! But mother-daughter relationships are often marred by need, pain, or other historic damage.
Whether we have experienced the blessing of a positive relationship with our mother or are navigating the complexity of historic damage, the Lord wants to set us free into the life that He intended. He does not want us to be hijacked by our mother’s weaknesses. But what is our part in letting that healing happen? And what does it mean for our adult relationship with our mother? It is not enough to understand the damage; God wants to heal, to make new, to set us free to be a daughter of the Most High God. It’s a transformation that can also be a blessing to our mother, if she chooses.
If we are also a mother, what model can we use for a healthy relationship with our daughters? We will explore a vision of healthy mothering, to enable our daughters to grow into more of who God created them to be—and acknowledge the reality that it might not always look the way we want or expect!
