The Empty Chair
: A practical tool for letting go of grief, pain, anger, and more…

We all have things we wish we could say to others. Or we have feelings from an event or relationship that we feel trapped in. We might have a grief that just feels stuck, or perhaps we have a current relationship that is in conflict. Maybe there is a person we desperately need to talk to but they have no interest in talking to us. Or perhaps doing so simply wouldn’t be safe. Some of us feel we just can’t forgive someone who has hurt us or those we love. Often trying to express these words or feelings directly to others involved can be unhelpful or even impossible.  But trying to bury them or just ignore them can be damaging to us emotionally and even physically.  Carrying these unspoken words, and the often-toxic feelings that go with them, can be a burden in our lives that keeps us from living consistently in our healing and our walk with Christ.

In this Rapha workshop, Pastors Peter Holmes & Susan Williams unpack a therapeutic tool that many have used to find deep healing. The Empty Chair uses the gift of our imagination and a safe space to engage and release these trapped words and feelings.  We invite God to step in and bring cleansing, freedom, redemption, and perhaps even reconciliation. This tool can also be used for those who are not on a faith journey. Join us as we explore the biblical perspective, and give you a range of examples of how God uses the opportunity created with the Empty Chair to bring more healing and wholeness to our lives.
