The human instinct to survive helps all of us to walk through challenging situations that feel overwhelming. We created patterns of behavior, feelings, ways of relating that keep us safe and prevent a repetition of the damage. Sadly once these ‘guardians’ are established, we often leave them in place – they are working so well why dismantle them? Yet their role is to hide the damage from us as well as others. These guardians can become a significant obstacle to our journey of healing, sabotaging our endeavors, creating distractions and deceit, so that we can never really deeply and effectively press in to the healing we are seeking.
